Theme 3: Protocols, Standards, and Legislation (Chaired by Jens Rytter Take the Right Decision Everybody
and Henk Kars) Anke Loska and Ann Christensson · 2017
The archaeological deposits in medieval towns are the largest continuous, automatically protected sites of historical and archaeological signifi cance in Norway. The modern settlement has developed on top of medieval and younger deposits which means that not only are they an irreplaceable depository of historical information, but they also form a signifi cant part of the modern town’s physical foundation. In most of the towns, the medieval town remains coincide with today’s city centre and they form the basis for the urban culture that we observe today.
