As both point-of-care testing (POCT) and electronic medical records system use rises in hospitals, the importance of real-time electronic reporting of results increases. To support the use of this model, POCT data management systems are involving to meet the changing needs of the marketplace. Five specific areas of POCT data management functionality that hospitals should consider when evaluating their long-term strategies are discussed.
