This chapter defines the concept of professional ethics and discusses how ethical concepts can and should be applied to the asset protection field. It does this by: • Examining the basic claims made for the field by its practitioners • Considering specific situations and the implications for the individual professional • Exploring the development of professional ethics in the security field and suggesting some extensions of current principles In addition, this chapter provides an overview of the context and application of professional ethics in general, with specific examples of how such concepts can be applied to the asset protection practitioner.
