Vector Processing

Vector tracking has many advantages over scalar tracking. There are a number of different implementations of vector processing, and this chapter provides a survey of those implementations. Conceptual design, processing architecture, algorithm implementation details, testing results using both simulation and real data, and performance analysis of the vector delay lock loop (VDLL), vector delay frequency lock loop (VDFLL), and vector phase lock loop (VPLL) are presented. It is convenient to form a hybrid vector-scalar architecture to combine the robustness of the VDFLL code phase and carrier frequency tracking with the accuracy of the scalar phase-lock loop. Three hybrid vector-scalar architectures are described: VFLL-assisted PLL, local carrier-phase Kalman filter cascaded VDFLL, and co-op carrier-phase tracking. The three hybrid vector-scalar receiver architectures described here are designed to provide coherent carrier phase measurements while exploiting the robustness of the VDFLL.
