The Front‐End Developer Toolset

Simone Chiaretta · 2018

This chapter describes the types of tools used in front-end development, and main actors in each type of tool. C#, standard client-side JavaScript, and CSS are not the only languages needed for developing web applications the “front-end developer” way. Many of the tools focus on another version of JavaScript, Node.JS, and other domain-specific languages (DSL) like Sass/Less and JavaScript Object Notation (JSON). While waiting for the various JavaScript engines to catch up with ES6 features, Microsoft released TypeScript. JavaScript application frameworks, such as Angular, React, or others, should be used. jQuery is not a full application framework like Angular, Knockout, and React, but it is just a utility library that helps build interactive interfaces in HTML. Bootstrap contains a set of CSS- and HTML-based templates for styling forms, elements, buttons, navigation, typography, and a range of other UI components.
