Reconsiderations 2016
Anthony Kenny · Oxford University Press eBooks · 2016
The new final chapter surveys the reception of the first edition. The claim that the EE was the original home of the common books is now perhaps the majority opinion; the suggestion that it was later than the NE has won only a few adherents. The nine chapters of the first edition are revisited one by one, and defended against unjustified criticism and modified to take account of criticism that was justified. The stylometric methods are defended against misunderstanding, and the first edition’s treatment of Aristotle’s teaching on wisdom and happiness is confirmed. Among scholars discussed at some length are Kraut, Rowe, Buddensiek, Simpson, Natali and Zanatta.
