Comparative Quantiles

Clive M. Corcoran · 2012

A quantile is a generic term that covers some better known specific instances which includes percentiles and deciles. The central idea behind quantiles is that data is ranked and then, depending on which quantile one is interested in the relevant quantile value can be identified from looking at the data values that lie within the appropriate interval. Analysis based on comparative quantiles is concerned primarily with the time series data that falls within the boundary quantiles. As soon as that marker has been established many different realms of analysis become possible such as a comparison between what may be happening in the upper quantile with respect to price but the lower quantile with respect to volume or the range for the session. This chapter concludes that, when unexpected alignments within incongruous quantiles appear there is a strong possibility that a directional change is imminent.
