Evaluating and Measuring Complexity: The CINSYS Methodology
Pierre Massotte, Patrick Corsi · 2020
This chapter introduces the methodological system Complexity INspection SYStem (CINSYS). It is a method of assessing the “value in complexity” of a system. This value is appreciated – rather than analyzed – in a perceptive, cohesive and multi-dimensional way. The scales that can express an intensity of appreciation are not always discretized, in order to preserve not only quantitative but also qualitative appreciation. Beyond helping to observe complex systems, the CINSYS method brings about a shape that forms and highlights the overall value of the complex, multi-faceted system under observation. The chapter presents the evaluation results of two projects, or case studies, which were submitted in the past to European evaluation bodies for innovative projects. These projects were falling under the theme of “Software Engineering” in the field of “Information Technologies”, submitted during the “Third Framework Program” of the European Community.
