Introduction to Sensor Technology
Vijay Kumar · 2013
This chapter provides a brief history of the concept of sensing that led to the development of the electronic sensors we see today. It then briefly discusses the evolution of a sensor network that forms the backbone of sensor technology. It begins with different types of sensors and explains their workings through a simple block diagram. It then talks about sensor networks that are effectively deployed to collect the type of data they are programmed for. The objective of the chapter is to introduce a type of data called stream data that is captured by sensor networks. It discusses the properties of stream data and talks about its management. Controlled Vocabulary Terms distributed databases; wireless sensor networks
