Biggest-ever DDoS attack takes down high-profile web services

A distributed denial of service attack that may have topped 1.2Tbps – the biggest ever seen – took out the anycast servers of DNS service provider Dyn, effectively knocking offline several major names such as Twitter, Spotify, Amazon and others. The attack exploited Internet of Things (IoT) devices, including CCTV cameras and digital video recorders, which had been infected with the Mirai malware.
