For the question of dating cave and rock painting

In present time dating of images on rocks and in caves is made on basis of dating the layer under the images, style correspondence with images from other territories, analogies with small form pieces of art, graphic images on pottery and other products. But different compositions of dyes, detection palimpsest and traces of correction or remediation of images may indicate different time of drawing a picture on the rocks or cave walls. Big difference in strict dating of paint of images and cultural layer under them in Ignatievskaia cave is a good example of this. Straight paint drawing dates in cave Shove had proven the unreliability of stylistic similarities for images dating. Cultural remains under rocks with images also can not serve as a basis for images dating, because in ancient times individual rocks without any pictures often became objects of sakralization. In the article the main images dating methods are described and the conventionality of their results is proved. Only strict dating of dyes from the image can define real time of its making. But even in this case problems will remain because images could be corrected in different times.
