Speech waveform coding: Techniques and performance
Ronald E. Crochiere, Yasuo Kato · The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America · 1978
With the evolution of large-scale integration of digital logic, a renewed interest has developed in methods of digital encoding and transmission of speech signals. Coupled with these advances, a number of new concepts and directions have emerged in the area of speech waveform coding, leading to more efficient ways of representing speech digitally. Also, a greater need has developed for defining and understanding issues of speech coder quality. This session, therefore, will focus on these topics and will present a broad coverage of new concepts in the design and implementation of speech waveform coders. In the second part of the session attention will be directed at issues of measurement and assessment of coder quality.
