Fuzzy Sets

This chapter explains various concepts associated with fuzzy sets. It discusses different types of commonly employed fuzzy sets and various operations using fuzzy sets. The chapter examines a few of the important properties of fuzzy sets. A fuzzy set has several basic properties that affect the way the set is used and how it models a system. The model parameter spped is broken down into six fuzzy sets: zero, very slow, slow, medium, high and very high. The total allowable problem space is divided into various fuzzy sets with each fuzzy set encompassing a specific range of values. Non-convex fuzzy sets are fuzzy sets in which the membership grade alternately increases and decreases in the domain. Commonly employed fuzzy sets have been included for completeness. Further, various Zadeh operations on fuzzy sets have been exemplified and the results compared with corresponding crisp set operations.
