Going Beyond Select Queries

Michael Alexander, Dick Kusleika · 2018

This chapter provides an in-depth look at the various tools available in Access and how they can help go beyond select queries. An aggregate query, sometimes referred to as a group-by query, is a type of query users can build to help them quickly group and summarize their data. In addition to querying data, the scope of data analysis includes shaping data, changing data, deleting data, and updating data. Access provides action queries as data analysis tools to help the users with these tasks. There are two methods to create a crosstab query. The users can use the Crosstab Query Wizard or create a crosstab query manually using the query design grid. There are four types of action queries: make-table queries, delete queries, append queries, and update queries. The chapter provides the steps to optimize query performance and reduce the time it takes to run the users' large analytical processes.
