Masking: Enhanced Area Isolation

Richard Lynch · 2009

This chapter looks at some additional types of isolation using layers and masking to create flexibility with layers and correction. Masking provides power in correction. Simply put, masking blocks off areas of an image from change or hides them from view. More sophisticated means of masking are comparable to the simple masking the people explored in the exercise, just with more finesse. Throughout the chapter, the people have looked in some depth at a variety of ways masking is applied in images. The basic concept is, indeed, "masking hides", but it can hide and reveal and becomes layers for the purpose of corrections. The real challenge is to take some of what the people have learned about masking in layers and applying it to own images.
