Profile Language

Matthias Eichstädt · Deutscher Universitätsverlag eBooks · 1999

This chapter outlines the fundamental design rationale for the profile language that is used to specify content filters. The first section highlights key design objectives and identifies the main constraints. The second section gives an overview of query languages that have been used in previous information retrieval systems such as STAIRS [Inta], Melampus [RS91] and WAIS [KM91]. We compare the features of previous systems with our approach. Finally, a detailed description of our query algebra is presented in the third section.
