Cisco Data Center Products and Technologies
Todd Montgomery, Stephen Olson · 2018
This chapter describes network architectures for the data center, including Cisco Unified Fabric, the Cisco Nexus product family, and device virtualization. The chapter also focuses on separation of control and data, programmability, and basic understanding Open Daylight. The primary use case of the data center is for the many devices and systems to efficiently communicate within the confines of the data center and to the outside world. Data centers are usually measured by their efficiency and speed, and those metrics closely revolve around network architecture. Servers traditionally have multiple types of network connections that are used for separate functions. There are no hard or fixed requirements for server connections to the cloud network fabric. The public interface is the one most thought of when considering how a server connects to the external network. Management Interface is usually a dedicated management interface for out-of-band connectivity or just plain management connectivity. Server vendors have different methods to use this, but most revolve around using Ethernet for connectivity.
