String Handling

R. J. Mitchell · 1991

A string is another data structure much used in programming. In this chapter a number of useful simple string processing algorithms are given. Also provided is a routine which allows the user to enter a string or edit an existing one. Although this routine was written for the diagram package, and works within the window system, it was written in such a way that it could be used in other programs which do not use windows. This requires the use of procedure variables, which is another topic described in the chapter.
