The forgery of art and archaeological treasures is a fascinating subject and since scientific methods have become more sophisticated the onus of detection has shifted from the art historian to the laboratory scientist. The techniques which have been developed by the scientist have revealed many an ingenious instance of hitherto concealed deception.
