Business Continuity and Computer Support

Quentin Docter · 2018

This chapter covers two key topics related to dealing with computer problems, including business continuity and troubleshooting and support. Business continuity means trying to prevent problems from happening in the first place and planning for when the inevitable hardware failure or software loss happens. Fault tolerant systems help protect against single points of failure. There are different variants of fault tolerant plans that can be implemented, from full-time, always-on solutions to offline backups that might take a day or two to restore. Networks can be configured with redundant connections to avoid having a single point of failure. The redundant connection could potentially be alive and working full-time, or it could be an offline backup that springs into action if a failure is detected in the main link.
