Dynamic Service Provisioning Frameworks

Yang Yang, Xu Chen, Rui Tan, Yong Xiao · 2021

This chapter presents the system model for cross-edge service function chain deployment, and the problem formulation for the long-term cost minimization. It analyzes the theoretical performance of the proposed online algorithm via competitive analysis. The chapter focuses on a trace-driven simulations to evaluate the practical benefits of the proposed online orchestration framework. It discusses several research directions to extend the proposed online optimization framework to shed light on future potential research on cost-efficient service function chaining across dispersed edge computing nodes. The chapter explores fog computing systems in which cloud data centers can be supplemented by a large number of fog nodes deployed in a wide geographical area. It proposes the mechanism of dynamic network slicingin which a regional orchestrator coordinates workload distribution among local fog nodes, providing partitions/slices of energy and computational resources to support a specific type of service with certain quality-of-service guarantees.
