Chapter 5 introduced ASP.NET’s new configuration system, which revolves around plain-text XML files. This system is a great stride forward from ASP programming—it’s easy, multilayered, and supports dynamic updates. Making a modification requires little more than a few minutes with Notepad, and settings come into effect for all new client requests immediately after you make a change. The only ingredient ASP.NET configuration lacks is an attractive graphical tool for configuration—although you’ll probably find that the simple text editor approach is refreshingly straightforward.
