Image segmentation is a classical problem in computer vision and of paramount importance to medical imaging. The rapidly growing availability of three-dimensional reconstruction techniques had led to the development of numerous semiautomatic and automatic classification techniques to replace manual segmentation, which is a labor-intensive, subjective, and thereby nonreproducible procedure.
