Operating System Administration
Quentin Docter, Jon Buhagiar · 2019
This chapter focuses on the administration of the Windows operating systems basic components. Windows operating system is functional from the time it is installed, Microsoft realized that if someone were going to use computers regularly, they would probably want to be able to customize their environment so that it would be better suited to their needs or at least more fun to use. As a result, the Windows environment has a large number of utilities that are intended to give you control over the look and feel of the operating system. The System applet in Control Panel is one of the most important applets, and it's nearly all business. From within this relatively innocuous panel, you can make a large number of configuration changes to a Windows machine. The User Accounts applet allows you to view and create accounts for the Windows operating system. You can change the account name that appears on the Welcome and Start screen. You can also change the account type by selecting the radio buttons of either Standard or Administrator. In Windows 10, the Setting app for Accounts allows you to change the picture that is displayed along with your username. In Windows 8/8.1 and Windows 7, the user picture can be selected from the User Accounts applet.
