Zheng Liu · Auerbach Publications eBooks · 2006

This chapter introduces some new trends and challenges in the research and application of digital watermarking for printed materials. It provides a brief overview of the digital watermarking technology and discusses the corresponding issues. The chapter also introduces digital watermarking techniques used for printed materials, which is a very challenging topic in the digital rights management (DRM) system. It presents watermarking techniques used for printed images by using a mobile camera phone, which may be the most challenging topic in current digital watermarking research and applications. The DRM system has become a very popular topic because it promises to offer a secure framework for distributing digital content. Binary images, such as scanned text, figures, and signatures, are also an important issue that should be taken into account for the document DRM system. Since the mid-1990s, digital watermarking technology has grown rapidly in research.
