VoIP lessons

As businesses start to migrate towards the convergence of their data and voice communications, key lessons are emerging as to what to do and what to be wary of. In IP telephony, voice is first converted into packets of digital data. These packets are then transmitted over a single network such as the LAN (local area network) or WAN (wide area network), which gives the benefit of `free' calls between sites, just as if one were calling an internal extension. Bringing voice and data together revolutionises the way businesses communicate, making it possible to transmit all types of communication-whether its email, telephony, fax or video-over a common network.
