The chapter starts with an account of the geometry of stereoscopic displays and of instruments that have been used to create stereoscopic images. These include stereoscopes, random-dot stereograms, holograms, and autostereograms. Applications of stereoscopy are then reviewed. These include photogrammetry, rangefinders, stereomicroscopy and stereoendoscopy, stereosculpting, stereolithography, 3-D movies, and virtual-reality systems.
