IF THE Washington rumor factory is reporting what is actually transpiring, a hot debate is going on within administration circles over the framing of the regulations of Selective Service. One of the most bitterly contested questions is the issue of whether students preparing for careers in science should be deferred from the draft. We have noted quite a number of editorials on this subject in many of the most influential newspapers of this country, including the Washington Post . We are pleased to report that the facts are properly understood and are being given to the country far more effectively than in the past. The Washington Post editorial of Sunday, Oct. 10, should be placed in the hands of every local board. We quote it in full. The final paragraph is particularly very pertinent.
