Optimized Programming
Henry A. Seymour · The Journal of Data Education · 1981
Optimization in programming was a requirement in the beginning years of computing. This was due to the lack of optimization techniques in the compilers and the expense of memory. Both of these problems have been overcome in many systems today and, therefore, there is a tendency not to teach optimized programming any longer. The problem is that with the increase of microcomputers in today's market place, and the compilers that can be obtained; one now finds that it is again possible to be programming on a system which does not have an optimizing compiler, or a sufficient amount of memory. Some areas of optimization which are accessible to the programmer are discussed.
