A CMOS Field-programmable Analog Array

Field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) for digital circuit prototyping are now commercially available from several vendors. Field-programmable analog arrays (FPAAs) are not yet commercially evident. However, recent commercial products go part of the way. Thus, current single-chip analog neural-network chips have fixed topology but programmable synaptic weights. There is need for a user-controlled IC strategy whereby various analog networks can be realized in a reusable generic medium suited, for example, to neural-network prototyping.
