Erasure as Planned Obsolescence
Jens Schröter · 2019
One of the central media functions is storage. But it is often forgotten that stored information can also be erased - at least in some media, because there is a difference between media that can erase information and others that can't. Sometimes it is even a necessity to get rid of potentially problematic information and some new media formats like SnapChat are centered around the funtions of erasure. The paper discusses this historically.
