Challenges and Opportunities in Building Secure IoT Platforms

Tung-Yi Chan · 2022

There are increasing concerns on the security of IoT devices. Due to limited OS/firmware capability and insufficient external support in IoT devices, a new security architecture becomes imminent. “Root of Trust” and “cyber resilience” strengthened with hardware are two key security measures to make IoT devices less vulnerable to cyberattacks and have ability to recover by itself after attacks. Secure MCU, secure Memory and Firmware are trio anchors for effective secure platforms in IoT devices. In this speech, how to integrate firmware, MCU and new secure Flash memory to build an effective secure IoT platforms is explored. There are tremendous opportunities for innovation in integrated MCU + Secure Flash memory solutions.
