The antiproliferative properties of quercetin along with its possible mode of cell death have been established. Nevertheless, it was found interesting to observe the morphological changes of MCF7 cells over the time of incubation with quercetin. In this study, the cytotoxic property of quercetin towards MCF7 was evaluated by MTT assay. No effect on the cellular metabolic activity of MCF7 cells after treatment with quercetin at 24 hour was found. But, 48 hours and 72 hours treatment of quercetin exhibited cytotoxic effect with IC50 values of 43.18 μg/mL and 18.49 μg/mL respectively. Live cell imaging was carried out to monitor the morphological changes of the cells. Apoptosis was found absent at 24 hours, however, long-time exposure allowed quercetin to promote apoptosis. Acquired results from live cell imaging presented an insight to the morphological changes due to the respond of MCF7 cells towards quercetin.
