Python Programming Environment

Chris Kelliher · 2022

In this chapter we provide the reader with an introduction into the basics of programming in Python. In doing so, we begin by detailing the strengths and weaknesses of Python and highlighting its unique properties relative to other high level programming languages. We then provide an overview of several possible development environments that the reader may use to code in Python and provide an overview of the expected syntax. Finally, we cover the basic concepts in Python such as its dynamic typing nature and different data types, executing conditional statements as well as for and while loops, creating user-defined functions, plotting and importing external modules.
