The number of available sensors and various low-power sensor devices with wireless connectivity is rapidly growing. These devices form wireless sensor networks that can connect to the internet directly or through some gateway device. Monitoring systems use these sensors to collect and analyze various data, detect important events or take actions based on sensed data. These systems bring a lot of benefits to many different scientific fields, they can help improve water quality, grow crops more efficiently, make sure pharmaceutical products are stored in proper conditions, and many more. In this paper, we present our intelligent monitoring system (IMS), a universal solution for data sensing and analysis. Its main contribution is that it can interconnect many different sensor devices and process any data type, it is not limited to one specific field. Moreover, data are stored and processed in a safe cloud storage. The access is not limited to one web or mobile application, many different applications can connect to the IMS. We present real life scenarios where our IMS has been evaluated to show how it can be deployed in different fields of expertise.
