Augmented Reality (AR) holds great potential to support the productivity, safety, and decision making of construction workers. We propose that AR in construction needs intelligent sensing, understanding, and adaptation based on context: information about the worker, their work/tasks, and the surrounding environment. As a proof-of-concept of intelligent AR, we present the design of the BuildAR prototype, which illustrates how a context-aware AR system might support an assembly task conducted by steel workers.
