Motivations for Construction of Cyber Ranges

CRs have been used for several purposes like experimentation, evaluations, and risk trainings. But over the years, CRs have been in demand for extending cybersecurity aspects to industrial arenas. With the advancements in technology, many industries have incorporated OT/IT frameworks in their infrastructures. The major reason for success and increased usage of CRs can be attributed to the transforming industrial sector. Many organizations and businesses now understand the necessity of having skilled cybersecurity workforces, empowering research and development of mitigation techniques, security policies, etc. This chapter provides a detail insight on the importance of cybersecurity and related aspects in some of the major industrial sectors. It also highlights the contributing factors that motivated the construction and popular use of CRs.
