A Review on Task Offloading Mechanism for IoT Edge Fog Cloud Data Interplay

Prince Gupta, Rajeev Sharma, Sachi Gupta · 2022 IEEE Delhi Section Conference (DELCON) · 2022

In many cyber-physical systems (CSP) based applications such as health care, smart grid, traffic management, etc., the data measurements are used for the asset or structural health monitoring, which requires a timely response based on real-time analytics. Transforming all acquired data from thousands of Internet of Things (IoT) nodes to a cloud server for analysis is not an effective solution for these time-sensitive CPS applications due to network latency. Therefore, to optimize response time, some modifications are needed. There is a need for designing data interplay algorithms in a more structured way to exchange data among IoT-Edge-Fog-Cloud applications. The data interplay is basically used for a big volume of data generation and how it can be transferred to the cloud servers. This paper focuses on data transfer or task offloading to effectively show data interplay among IoT-Edge-Fog-Cloud applications. This paper presents a comprehensive review of recent advances in task offloading modeling in IoT-Edge-Fog-Cloud applications. Finally, this paper highlights some data interplay research directions and challenges for future research perspectives.
