The Potential of Artificial Intelligence as a Method of Software Developer's Productivity Improvement

Artificial Intelligence finds application at all stages of Software Engineering, and uses the Neural Networks, Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing concepts. This paper attempts to review the instance of such approach - neural network programmer’s assistant Copilot, based on Codex, the AI system developed by OpenAI. The differences between Codex language model’s versions and analogous systems were analyzed. The main problems and gaps of this innovation, such as correct commands formulation, copyrighting, safety issues, inefficient code, good practice examples and restrictions are also considered. Additionally, the opportunities for Copilot’s growth, development and possible features’ proposed recommendations were suggested.
