Hardware Architecture of IoT and Wearable Devices

Manoj Sharma · Internet of Things · 2022

Wearable technology has become one of the most acceptable part in human society. Continuous monitoring, accurate data acquisitions, and manipulations have great opportunities to improve the life standards. With the advances in sensors in communication technologies, the impact of wearable devices has become enormous. It plays a critical role in many dimensions of the life nowadays, especially in healthcare, security, entertainment, etc. With the advances and popularity of Internet of Things (IoT), the reach of wearable technologies has increased manifold. With interconnected things all over the globe, the devices are becoming more intelligent and secure. This involves quite accurate and smart architectures to exploit the best of electrical, electronics, mechanics, computers, biomedical, and product engineering to develop cutting edge wearable system. The hardware architecture essentially becomes critical backbone in embedding over and above the data transfer technologies associated. This chapter provides the essential ingredients for conceptualizing a perfect hardware architecture for wearable system. Different communication protocols and their applicability are discussed in details followed by the advances in energy harvesting technologies which have become very useful in energizing the wearable systems. The chapter further includes the low-power circuit design techniques especially focusing the wearable systems.
