Role of Artificial Intelligence-Based Technologies in Healthcare to Combat Critical Diseases

Abhinay Thakur, Ashish Kumar · 2022

Artificial intelligence (AI) and allied technologies are increasingly sophisticated at doing what humans do, but more efficiently, more quickly and at a lower cost. Several organizations from healthcare of all sizes, types, and specializations are progressively fascinated by how AI and its applications enable supreme healthcare delivery that provides patient-level recommendations based on identification, stratification models and care while also lowering costs and enhancing efficiency. For instance, AI has been used for the assessment and earlier diagnosis of continual chronic wound status by achieving a maximum yield of 85.67% efficiency and accuracy by utilizing several computational learning algorithms like Linear Discriminant Analysis, Decision Tree etc., respectively. In this chapter, we discuss recent advances in AI technology and its biomedical applications, which have the potential to enhance the healthcare industry by enhancing aspects of healthcare systems. Despite the enormous promise of cutting-edge AI research and innovation in the realm of healthcare, the ethical issues induced by its applications have been addressed.
