Foreshortened View Task
M. Jane Riddoch, Glyn W. Humphreys · Psychology Press eBooks · 2022
Three different pictures are presented on each trial. One picture is of the object taken from a standard viewpoint, the second is of that same object taken from a different viewpoint and the third is a different object selected to be visually similar to one of the first 2 pictures (stimuli 2 and 3 are labelled as “probe stimuli”). In the “foreshortened view” task, the main identifying feature of the object, rated from the standard view, is generally maintained in the unusual view. The overall shape of the object differs in the standard and the foreshortened views of the object due to the depth rotation of the object. The target picture is situated at the top of the page in a box with a bold outline. The patient is asked to decide which of the lower 2 pictures shows the same object.
