The aspiration of this article is to develop an Android application that can detect potential falls in the elderly. Android is a free and open source operating system. Being an open source platform, it is easy for anyone to create their own application. Falling in the elderly is a major concern for families and health care professionals. Falls is the eighth killer in the United States, experts say. Untreated falls in adults 65 years of age and older can pose serious health risks, as 20% of falls require emergency medical care and one-tenth of falls result in fractures. This is the motivation behind the development of an aged assistance system that detects falls and notifies the caretaker. The application involves tracking the person and alerting the caretaker if something goes wrong. One of the key characteristics of this Android app is that it sends alert messages to the caretaker with all of the required information. The alert messages provide important information such as their geo location and map directions. In the event of a false alarm, the person is given the power to stop it before taking any further action. This project focuses on assisting the elderly. The smartphone application can identify potential falls and provide alerts to families, physicians, and other caretakers via a user-friendly interface.
