DevOps and Software Factories
Yves Caseau · Productivity Press eBooks · 2022
An essential property of an industrial software deployment process is to be able to guarantee the reproducibility of the deployments, and this requires rigorous configuration management ( 7.1.1 ). Continuous integration consists of performing the integration phase regularly and very frequently so as not to let the “integration complexity debt” grow ( 7.1.2 ). If the construction pipeline is not working well, run it more frequently and highlight the difficulties ( 7.1.3 ). The set of tests is a common asset of the team, which is built by continuous improvement ( 7.1.4 ). DevOps is a product approach in which each deployment is an opportunity to learn and make improvements in the next development cycle ( 7.2.1 ). The DevOps approach is the common foundation for companies that excel in software development and deployment ( 7.2.3 ). Effective digital organizations are primarily learning organizations ( 7.2.3 ). Working together on the same problem forces one to build a common vocabulary and develop a better understanding of the views of other team members ( 7.3.3 ). Digital transformation reintroduces the need for code review ( 7.3.4 ). Developing programming standards is both necessary to encourage code reviews and peer programming and useful to let the team organize its continuing education, alone or within a guild of programmers who share a technical or functional domain ( 7.3.4 ).
