The demand for blockchain-based identity management systems (IDMSs) is especially evident in the internet age; we have been dealing with identity management issues since the internet's inception. Privacy, security, and usability have all been cited as major concerns. User identities are organized using IDMSs, which also manage authentication, authorization, and data interchange over the internet. Conventional IDMSs are also plagued by a lack of interoperability, single points of vulnerability, and privacy concerns, such as allowing bulk collection of data and device monitoring. Blockchain technology has the prospect to palliate these issues by allowing users to monitor the ownership of their own identifiers and authentication credentials, empowering novel information proprietorship and administration frameworks with built-in control and consensus mechanisms. Thus, blockchain-based IDMSs, which have the ability to profit organizations and clients both, have started increasing rapidly. We will sort these frameworks into a scientific categorization dependent on contrasts in blockchain structures, administration models, and other notable highlights. Context is accommodated by scientific categorization by the representation of relevant concepts, emerging principles, and usage cases, while illustrating essential protection and privacy issues.
