Chemical & Engineering News · 1958
SPENCER CHEMICAL is making ready to assault all segments of the 1959 nitrogen fertilizer front—production, distribution, application, and promotion. Last week's startup of a 100 ton-per-day urea plant at Henderson, Ky., completed the firm's arsenal of nitrogen materials. And a nitrogen solutions seminar held in conjunction with the plant opening hinted at the battle plans. Spencer played host to about 75 fertilizer manufacturers at the seminar, which covered agronomy and application of nitrogen solutions, and promotion plans by dealers. For the time being, all of the urea output is aimed at agricultural markets. Major share of the production will go into Spencer's line of ammoniating and direct application solutions (Spensol Greeen and Ura-Greeen solutions, respectively). Prilled urea for direct application is also being made by Spencer now. The urea plant, integrated with Spencer's Henderson ammonia facilities, uses the Montecatini process. Carbon dioxide is first removed from reform gas in hot carbonate absorption towers. ...
