Computation of the Exponential of a Matrix II. Practical Considerations

A study is made of the effectiveness of using diagonal padé approximants to approximate the exponential of a matrix. Examples are given to illustrate that realistic erre bounds for such approximations may be obtained in principle, and practical implications are discussed.
