Kanban Boards

Kanban boards are very popular in project management and are used primarily in agile development. There are degrees of complexity of usage of Kanban from the simplest set of boards: To Do, Doing, Done to more complex ones. A Gantt chart is different in that it calculates and presents durations for tasks or requirements on the chart whereas Kanban assumes an average duration for completing tasks. Even though hard deadlines are the norm on degree courses, Gantt and Kanban are both best suited to continuous development where the deadline, though set, can easily slip so the work can be completed to expectation. Kanban can have similar risk of overrun but a Kanban project is a little different. Much of the distinction lies on how to address dependencies. Traditional project management estimation works in the same way in principle. More staff can be added even if the project looks like it is going to be late.
