Dereverberation

Emanuël A. P. Habets, Patrick A. Naylor · 2018

The degrading effects of reverberation on speech are a major concern in applications including speech telecommunications and automatic speech recognition (ASR). The distortion caused by reverberation can be modeled as a convolutive distortion or an additive distortion. Depending on the distortion model, one can develop reverberation cancellation or suppression approaches, respectively. In this chapter, we review these two dereverberation approaches. We also discuss alternative approaches that are specifically designed for the dereverberation of speech and evaluation metrics.
