Sensor Technology and Data Streams Management

Vijay Kumar · 2013

This chapter discusses the management of data stream or stream data. It introduces the general architectural differences between a database management system (DBMS) and a data stream management system (DSMS). The chapter briefly indicates the advantages of integrating stream and complex event processing to obtain an end-to-end solution for processing sensor data and data of other similar applications. It also presents two different applications that can benefit from the use of stream and event processing techniques: a network management application and processing of multilevel secure data. Controlled Vocabulary Terms database management systems; wireless sensor networks
